Join UK Ghost Nights as we explore the extremely Haunted Kielder Castle in Northumberland. Visitors and occupiers of the Castle tell of objects being moved, apparitions, disembodied footsteps and unexplained noises. The Castle Well which is down a path in the adjacent woods is also reputedly to be haunted. Previous stays have resulted in very little sleep!
Haunted Kielder Castle History
Formally the hunting lodge of The Duke of Northumberland, built in 1775 on the site of an ancient burial ground dating from 3000BC, and a Roman settlement, possibly a Fort. Kielder is officially the darkest place in the UK, a fantastic location to view the Milky Way. It also has the highest population of Red Squirrels in the UK living in the forest surrounding the Castle. The Castle is now the visitor centre for the National Park and with many rooms to investigate along with the attic areas, and an unrestored section that is very creepy even in daylight.
We have a sleepover when the investigation finishes at 02.00, so bring your sleeping bags etc. We recommend staying as the road out of the Park is very dangerous at night (and that’s not just the spooks!) However if you want to carry on investigating then please do, just tippy-toe past us sleepers!. We have to vacate the Castle by 09.00 on the Sunday morning and there is a very nice Castle Café that opens at 09.30, recommended for the “fill up” before leaving.
